A Multiobjective Route Robust Optimization Model and Algorithm for Hazmat Transportation

Abstract: Aiming at route optimization problem of hazardous materials transportation in uncertain environment, this paper presents a multiobjective robust optimization model by taking robust control parameters into consideration. The objective of the model is to minimize not only transportation risk but also transportation time, and a robust counterpart of the model is introduced through applying the Bertsimas-Sim robust optimization theory. Moreover, a fuzzy C-means clustering-particle swarm optimization (FCMC-PSO) alg… Show more

“…For example, Noureddine et al [43] proposed a route planning for hazardous materials transportation using multicriteria decision making method, the similar route planning measures were also proposed by Ma, et al [1,7,8]. In addition, quality function deployment (QFD) framework [44], risk management framework [45], and security barriers [46], are also considered to manage the local, regional and national transport safety of hazardous materials.…”

“…However, in recent years, transport accidents of hazardous materials occur frequently. Although the number of transport accidents of hazardous materials is relatively small, the consequences of accidents are relatively serious and irreversible [7,8]. On…”

“…For example, Joy conducted some empirical studies in the transportation of hazardous materials with the shortest path algorithm [31]. Glickman, Ivancie, Pijawka, and Kessler studied the path selection of hazardous materials opportunity constrained programming model for hazardous materials transportation path and a stochastic correlation opportunity constrained programming model based on the opportunity-constrained and related opportunity-constrained programming theory for the uncertainty of impedance, and the hybrid intelligent algorithm solves and finally obtains a satisfactory transportation path [68][69][70][71]. Yang et al designed the hazardous materials transportation safety management system under the vehicle-infrastructure connected environment [72].…”

“…Kara et al [18] studied actual accident cases and the optimization of multiobjective hazardous material transportation routes. Ma et al [19][20][21][22] analyzed transportation route selection for hazardous materials in a stable environment and an uncertain environment and proposed a multiobjective route planning model for hazardous material transportation in a stable environment. In the uncertain environment, the multiobjective path probability-constrained model and the multiobjective path probability-dependent model for hazardous material transportation were proposed.…”
