To reduce potential food hazards and increase the image of Thai horticultural products abroad, the Thai government introduced public standards of Good Agricultural Practices (Q-GAP). What makes orchid and mango producers in Thailand adopt Q-GAP standards and how do these affect their income and export shares? Primary data from 400 certified and non-certified orchid and mango producers was collected from main exporting provinces in Thailand. The binary probit model estimations show that it is the orchid and mango producers with higher education, and more physical and social capital who tend to comply with Q-GAP standards. Results from the Propensity Score Matching approach reveal that adoption of public GAP standards results in positive income effects for mango producers, but not for orchid producers. This can be explained by the fact that certified mango producers can sell their products to high-value retail chains which offer higher prices for their products, while certified and non-certified orchid producers cooperate with traders from the same value chain.

Can information and trust about organic food improve consumer's attitude toward buying in Thailand?

Thailand is gradually becoming an attractive market for organic food as tourists from different parts of the world try to experience unique food items. However, the attitude of local consumers toward buying organic food is not encouraging. Lack of information and trust on organic food procedures are probably the main factors influencing the local consumers. In this article, the role of information need, information seeking, and consumer’s trust on attitude toward buying organic food were studied. Moreover, this study also checked the moderating role of price barrier in given relationships which was not previously discussed in literature. Data, collected from 292 tourists and residents in Thailand through questionnaire and responses, were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Results highlighted that all the three independent variables, information need, information seeking, and consumer’s trust, have significant impact on attitude toward buying organic food. Price barrier only proved as a significant moderator in the relationship between information need and consumer’s attitude toward buying organic food while it proved insignificant in other two relationships. This study also includes implications in industry, consumers, academia, and future research indications.

Subjective well-being of consumers is turned out to be a modern and the most important issue for green marketers.World's food policy which is mostly revolving around consumption of organic food is also making well-being a center piece of all its discussions. This study has contributed by checking the impact of consumer sustainability orientation (CSO), skepticism and environmentally conscious purchase behavior (ECPB) on subjective well-being of consumers in mediating role of organic food consumption. A quantitative methodology was adopted in which questionnaires were filled by 314 respondents of Thailand. Survey results have revealed that CSO, skepticism and ECPB have a significant impact on subjective well-being of consumer and organic food consumption is also significantly mediating these relationships. No previous study has checked the mediating role of organic food consumption in Thailand's and respective variables' setting. This study can be beneficial for organic food industry as it can generate potential benefits for consumers.
