“…99m Tc-phytate, which was initially described as a radiopharmaceutical for reticuloendothelial system scintigraphy in 1977, forms colloid upon reaction with ionized calcium [13]. 99m Tc-phytate uptake occurs predominantly in the liver, rather than the spleen, after intravenous injection, which results in the formation of particles with a small diameter in the blood.…”

“…Phytate colloid is now available as an instant labeling kit in Japan. The simple addition of normal saline containing 99m Tc pertechnetate to this labeling kit yields 99m Tc‐phytate colloids with diameters between 100 and 200 nm 29 ; the size of colloidal particles grows further upon reaction with ionized calcium in vivo, 30 and these enlarged colloidal particles are preferentially phagocytosed by macrophages. Therefore, 99m Tc‐labeled phytate colloids are the tracers of choice for hepatosplenic scintigraphy.…”

“…Technetium-99m-Phytate (" m Tccomplex of inositolhexaphosphoric acid) is a well-known and widely used radiopharmaceutical for liver imaging. Since 1973, when it was proposed (11) as a useful agent for imaging of the reticulo-endothelial system, it has been widely used in a way similar to " m Tc-S-colloid (4,10) and " m Tc-Sncolloid (2,7). A specific feature of " m Tc-phytate is that it is introduced in the human organism as a solution and, by interaction with calcium ions from the blood, is transformed into a microcolloid in vivo and is actively deposited in the reticuloendothelial system, of which the hepatic Kupffer cell is the major component (2).…”
