“…Then, 20 mL of 3. 5 M HCl was added, and these samples were shaking at 22°C for 16 h. After centrifugation, concentrations of TP in the supernatant were measured by the methods in literature (Murphy and Riley 1962). To determine concentrations of P i and P o , 0.2 g of powdered samples were extracted with 20 mL 1 M HCl, for 16 h on an end-over-end shaker, then centrifuged for 20 min.…”

“…Ammonium (NH 4 + ) concentration was measured with the indophenol-blue method (Mackereth et al 1989), nitrate (NO 3 -) analysis was performed with the Cd-reduction method (Elliott and Porter 1971), while the amount of urea was determined as described by Newell et al (1967). The amount of total phosphorus (TP) was measured according to Gales et al (1966) Murphy and Riley (1962).…”

“…The tailings had a pH value of 8.68 (1:2.5 tailings to water), 1.63% organic matter, 0.031% total N. Total N content and organic matter were determined by the Kjeldahl method (Kjeldahl, 1883) and modified Tiurin's method (Mebius, 1960) respectively. The tailings were in short supply of available P with a content of 1.56 mg kg À1 that extracted by 0.5 mol L À1 NaHCO 3 , and determined colorimetrically by the vanadomolybdate method following the methods described by Olsen et al (1954) and Murphy and Riley (1962). The tailings contained 232 mg Cu kg, 81 mg Pb kg À1 , 54 mg As kg À1 , 2.5 mg Cd kg À1 and 189 mg Zn kg À1 .…”
