The cultural dimension of Uncertainty Avoidance is analysed in this study of an introduction to blended learning for international students. Content analysis was conducted on the survey narratives collected from three cohorts of management undergraduates in the United Arab Emirates. Interpretation of certainty with blended learning was found in: student skills with technology; student acknowledgement of course organisation; and student appreciation of online feedback. Uncertainty with the introduction of blended learning was found: when membership was assigned for group work, higher quality research methods were introduced; where course structure lacked detail, increased time was required for new and different online activities. These international students, from countries with a high score on Uncertainty Avoidance, exhibited that dimension when introduced to blended learning. The implications of these findings are discussed, and strategies suggested for introducing blended learning to international students. The limitations of the study are considered, and a direction for future research is suggested. This is the first study on undergraduates in the Middle East for the effects of a cultural dimension when introducing blended learning. The findings increase the body of knowledge that relates to learning technology in the international business classroom

Abstract-Several researchers have reported that cultural and language differences can affect online interactions and communications between students from different cultural backgrounds. Other researchers have asserted that online learning is a tool that can improve teaching and learning skills, but its effectiveness depends on how the tool is used. To delve into these aspects further, this study set out to investigate the kinds of learning difficulties encountered by the international Asian students, in particular Malaysian students and how they actually coped with online learning. The modified Online Learning Environment Survey (OLES) instrument was used to collect data from the sample of 76 students at a university in Brisbane. A smaller group of 35 Australian students was also included for comparison purposes. Contrary to assumptions from previous research, the findings revealed that there were only few differences between the international Asian students from Malaysia and Australian students with regards to their perceptions of online learning. Recommendations based on the findings of this research study were made for Australian universities where Asian international students from Malaysia study online. Specifically the recommendations highlighted the importance of upskilling of lecturers' ability to structure their teaching online and to apply strong theoretical underpinnings when designing learning activities such as discussion forums, and for the university to establish a degree of consistency with regards to how content is located and displayed in a learning management system like Blackboard.Index Terms-Asian international students, online learning, online learning environments, online learning environment survey (OLES), Net Gen, support for learning.

ResumenSe expone aquí una experiencia llevada a cabo en un instituto público de Enseñanza Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO) de España orientada al estudio sostenible de sus dimensiones físicas mediante el uso de Nuevas Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC). El objetivo es fomentar valores y actitudes en pro del desarrollo sostenible en alumnado de 4º de ESO a través de de un programa consistente en la realización de una auditoría ecológica a las dimensiones físicas del centro materializada a través del uso de TIC. La investigación realizada muestra que, tras la ejecución del proyecto, se consigue el objetivo perseguido. The objective is to promote values and attitudes towards sustainable development in students of the 4 th year of Secondary Education through a program consisting of an ecological audit of the physical dimensions of the school through the use of ICT. The research shows that, after carrying out the project, the initial objective is achieved.
