A Model for Aedes aegypti Infestation According to Meteorological Variables: case of Caratinga (Minas Gerais - Brazil)

Abstract: Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are the vector of diseases such as dengue, zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever among others. All the stages of development, eggs, larvae, pupa, and the adult of the species have its population modulated by meteorological variables, such as precipitation and temperature through affecting the productivity of breeding sites, metabolic processes, and others. Since adult females are responsible for transmitting the virus, the population of females becomes a direct indicator of the risk of i… Show more

“…There is a consensus in the literature that climate variables influence some of the entomological parameters of the model, so these parameters vary over time 3 , 4 , 10 , 11 . Therefore, another essential addition to the model that makes it more realistic is the dependence of some of its parameters on three climatic variables: temperature, precipitation, and humidity.…”

“…In the specific case of mortality in the aquatic phase, , which is influenced by temperature and precipitation 3 , 10 , the dependency can assume a well-behaved function, so that 11 . For simplicity, as a working hypothesis, and because the model (daily) rates are typically less than one, we retain the linear part for the association.…”

“…aegypti, based on studies [33,34]. In fact, the entomological parameters in several models are assumed to be considered as dependent on temperature and rainfall [7,26,35,45]. Thus, here the variable parameters are based on temperature d and precipitation r expressions that favor vector growth and development in time and space, as shown below.…”
