A miniaturized meandered printed monopole antenna for triband applications

Abstract: This work presents the design of a miniaturized, low profile tri‐band printed monopole antenna for WLAN and WiMAX applications. The proposed design comprises of a meandered shape component, an inverted G shape component and a defected ground plane to achieve resonance in any 3 bands. A prototype has been designed and fabricated based on the proposed structure. The antenna has a compact size of 0.18 λ × 0.15 λ, that is, 23 × 20 mm2. The measured results show that the antenna is operating in 3 bands, that is, 2.… Show more

“…So, multiband antenna design is very demanding and challenging task. That is why researchers are still working on design of multiband antennas with different promising structural configurations like slot type, PIFA, and monopole, antennas which may fulfill the requirements. In this context planar microstrip monopole antennas with various structures are very popular in multiband applications due to some inherent features such as light weight, low cost, easy fabrication, ease of integration within an environment of microwave circuit, and its radiation patterns characteristics.…”

As far as excitation is concerned the monopole antennas are classified into three sections ACS, CPW, and microstrip feed …”

“…The idea of a triangular structure was motivated by a previous design [15]. The meandering technique has also been previously discussed [16] and has enlightened the idea of constructing an M-type radiation patch and optimizing the structural size parameters using HFSS software. The inverted F structure was also inspired by previous work [17].…”
