Wide‐bandwidth multifrequency circularly polarized monopole antenna for wireless communication applications

Abstract: In this article, wideband circularly polarized monopole antennas with multiresonating frequencies are presented for Bluetooth, WLAN, WiMAX, and X‐band applications. The designed antennas have dimensions of 50 × 35 × 1.6 mm3. Two different substrates (FR4‐epoxy and PTFE) are used for fabricating the antennas. The antennas consist of corner truncated I‐shaped and C‐shaped strips excited by a 50 Ω microstrip feed line. The parametric analyses are performed with the help of Ansoft HFSS V.11 EM simulator. Both ante… Show more

“…Their CP characteristics also help in effectively combatting multipath interference or fading. To satisfy these requirements of DBDP antennas showing both linear and circular polarizations, different techniques have been utilized by various researchers [4][5][6][7]. An asymmetric dipole like radiator coupled with a T-shaped feed line having wide ground plane slot was used [4] to obtain dual-band characteristics.…”

“…Additionally, I-shaped resonator (ISR) arrays were used to enhance gain of the antenna. Recently, another group [6] used two planar multiband monopole antennas (using two different substrates, viz. FR4-epoxy and PTFE) to provide LP in lower band and CP in upper band.…”

“…However, these antennas are complicated nonplanar structures with small axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW). To design simple and compact structures which can be easily embedded in front end devices, various kinds of slot and planar monopole structures using CPW or microstrip‐line feeding techniques have been proposed for designing dual‐polarized antennas. CPW‐fed open‐ended slotted ground plane or L‐shaped monopole with parasitic resonator and grounded stub are used for achieving DP.…”

“…Dual‐band or triple‐band slot antennas based on microstrip‐line feeding have been proposed in References and for adopting DP characteristics in a single antenna. Moreover, the microstrip feeding technique has been adopted in planar monopole structures to widen the ARBW or to increase the number of frequency bands with DP characteristics.…”
