A Miniaturized Internal Wideband Antenna for Wireless Usb Dongle Application

Abstract: Abstract-A miniaturized internal wideband antenna suitable for integration with the printed circuit board (PCB) of a wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) dongle is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna mainly consists of a folded metal plate with two sides beveled. By introducing a short-circuited pin connected to the system ground and etching a pair of slots in the bevel sides of the folded metal plate, a large impedance bandwidth from 2.4 GHz to more than 11 GHz is obtained, which easily covers the 2… Show more

“…Most of these designs generally require complicated two-or threedimensional antenna configurations. As a result, it provides not only a large size in the radiator in wireless USB dongle devices but also some of these complicated antennas cannot cover some of these wireless bands [6,7]. Recently, USB dongle antennas, which provide various mobile services such as mobile and ultra-wideband (UWB) communications [8][9][10], have been reported.…”

“…To provide additional functions such as plug-and-play, the conventional USB dongle is used in laptops, portable multimedia players (PMPs), and personal digital assistants (PDA) [4]. Owing to the rapidly growing demands for multiple services in a mobile terminal as shown in Table 1, various multiband antennas for USB dongle applications have been introduced [46].…”

“…In order to satisfy the various wireless communication protocol systems demands, the future communication terminal antennas must not only be with a multi-band operation, but also have a simple structure, compact size and easy integration with the circuit. For the sake of achieving multi-band operation, the traditional approach is to use multi-branched strips [1][2][3][4][5][6], which generally leads to a large size or requires a large groundplane. PIFA usually has a compact size, but its bandwidth is relatively narrow and a sufficient height from the ground plane has to be kept to achieve the acceptable performances.…”

“…The additional two resonant modes are excited with opening a concave slot in the rectangular patch and two T-shaped patches. Compared to the antennas in [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9], the proposed antenna in this letter not only achieves quadruple bands meanwhile, but also has a rather simple structure that is easy to fabricate. To further reduce the size of the antenna, edge-fed technologies which can increase the antenna resonant length are utilized.…”
