A microvascular image analysis method for optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy

Abstract: Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) has been shown to be an excellent tool for high-resolution imaging of microvasculature, and quantitative analysis of the microvasculature can provide valuable information for the early diagnosis and treatment of various vascular-related diseases. In order to address the characteristics of weak signals, discontinuity and small diameters in photoacoustic microvascular images, we propose a method adaptive to the microvascular segmentation in photoacoustic image… Show more

“…In this work, when evaluating the degree of microvascular obstruction, we used the Imaris software for quantification of vascular length and vascular volume. There are several newly reported tools that analyze multiple characteristic vascular network parameters, such as branching point and tortuosity, which can help us to conduct a more comprehensive 3D structural analysis of blood vessels in stroke [19,[34][35][36].…”

“…Additionally, the variation between these 2 outcomes is important. Zhao et al [18] presented an approach adoptive to the microvascular segmentation in photoacoustic image that includes morphological connection and a Hessian matrix e precision of these vascular segmentation approaches is quantitatively estimated by several criteria. In order to attain continuous and accurate microvascular skeletons, an enhanced skeleton extractionbased multistencil fast marching (MSFM) approach has been presented.…”

“…The emergence of tailored anti-angiogenic medication provides the possibility to use MVD analysis as both a prognostic and therapeutic marker. MVD can be measured with a variety of histological and in vivo imaging techniques, including PAI [69][70][71][72]. To our knowledge, the use of PAI to measure MVD in vivo has been mostly limited to PA microscopy (acoustic and optical resolution) or mesoscopy [72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80].…”
