To clarify the effect of heterosis for the earliness of head formation in cabbage, we applied the diallel analysis to four developmental characteristics that were highly correlated with the earliness of head formation: leaf position at which the head formation started (LPH), length of the 5th wrapper leaf (L5), width of the 15th wrapper leaf (W15) and leaf shape index (width/length) of the 15th wrapper leaf (LSI15). LPH showed large additive and average dominant effects, high broad and narrow sense heritabilities, and incomplete dominance directed to low. Both L5 and W15 showed remarkably large dominance effect, low narrow sense heritability, and overdominance directed to long and wide. LSI15 showed large additive effect, comparatively high broad and narrow sense heritabilities, and incomplete dominance. From these results, we discussed how to raise the early head forming F 1 hybrid cabbage by taking into account the mode of inheritance of these developmental characteristics.

A new approach has been applied for identification of the changes in gene spectra, in accordance with the graphic model of Hayman, which allows making a comparison of varieties, presented in the graphics, as well as, a new method for interpretation of the change in location of certain varieties, with respect to given signs, at different environmental limits. In the genetic control of the characteristics of plant weight and seed weight per plant, a major role plays gene over-domination. The results obtained indicate a possibility of assessment of field peas genotypes by genetic-physiological systems in different environmental limits. No universal donor has been established between hybrids for attraction and adaptability. From selection point of view, of interest are the hybrids №11 (E.F.B.33 × Mir) with respect to green biomass (forage)and №12 (E.F.B.33 × Pleven 10), and with respect to seed №9 (Pleven 10 × E.F.B.33). Assessment of the source material, according to genetic-physiological systems, allows, with a higher degree of probability, to select an appropriate genotype, which exceeds the parental forms, in terms of productivity and ecological stability, and also to accelerate the process of creating new pea varieties.

The level of self-incompatibility (SI) directly influences the purity of F 1 seed produced by using an SI system. Using insect-pollination test, we performed diallel analysis to determine the levels of SI of 6 inbred lines of Brassica rapa L. differing in their rates of pod set. Each of 3 lines with a high level of SI (Ka1-22, Ka1-3 and Ch1-504) appeared to have different modes of inheritance. To clarify these in detail, we performed 4 × 4 diallel analysis using each of these 3 lines together with 3 other lines (Ko1-303, Ha1-400 and Ha1-10). The crosses with Ka1-22 showed an incomplete dominance and non-significant correlation between the proportion of dominant alleles of the parents (Vr + Wr) and the parental values (Pr), suggesting that Ka1-22 possesses dominant genes controlling the high level of SI. The crosses with Ch1-504 showed significant correlation between Vr + Wr and Pr, suggesting that Ch1-504 possesses recessive genes controlling the high level of SI. The crosses with Ka1-3 showed epistatic effects and specific combining effects. This study is the first to define strictly the genetic diversity controlling a high level of SI. Breeders must be careful in selecting the breeding material, because the mode of inheritance of the level of SI could differ in lines showing a high level of SI.
