A Methodology for Conducting Integrative Mixed Methods Research and Data Analyses

Abstract: Mixed methods research has gained visibility within the last few years, although limitations persist regarding the scientific caliber of certain mixed methods research designs and methods. The need exists for rigorous mixed methods designs that integrate various data analytic procedures for a seamless transfer of evidence across qualitative and quantitative modalities. Such designs can offer the strength of confirmatory results drawn from quantitative multivariate analyses, along with “deep structure” explanat… Show more

“…Future research could more systematically compare specific reform cases to explain the similarities and differences among PARs in various post-communist countries. Depending on the number of cases and research aims, this assessment could be based on statistical analysis, comparative qualitative analysis, comparative analysis, or integrative mixed-method research designs combining any of these methods (Castro, Ellison, Boyd and Kopak, 2010).…”

“…This enables one to exploit the strengths of both quantitative and qualitative approaches within a single research project (Castro, Ellison, Boyd and Kopak, 2010). Our first source of information was quantitative data from a 2013 survey of the European Public Administration Network (EUPAN) participants on reform trends in thirty-five European countries.…”

“…However, it undertakes these procedures without taking into account the context in which these data are involved. 10 The qualitative approach allows one to obtain more detailed and in-depth information on the experiences, allowing one to analyze this set of data based on its original context, considering the entire range of beliefs, emotions and values which influence this information. The main weak points of this approach, however, are related to the reliability of the articulation of the data, and to the construction of results obtained when data is collected from different information sources -as well as the difficulty of generalizing from these findings.…”
