A Method to Predict Disc Cutter Specific Energy for TBM Based on CSM Model

Abstract: By using fracture mechanics theory of rock, the rock fragmentation mechanism of tunnel boring machine (TBM) cutters is analyzed and the analysis of forces of cutter is carried out. A new method to predict disc cutter specific energy for TBM is developed in this study. By using the dynamic models of TBM cutters interaction with the rock, specific energy prediction model for TBM cutter head is developed. The data from the actual tunnel construction is analyzed by using an example of Qinling tunnel and the compar… Show more

“…It is based D r a f t on the mathematical model and has been verified by a large number of experiments with the linear cutting experimental platform. It has high accuracy and can be used to estimate the resultant force in the working process of the disc cutter (Rostami 2013 andLi et al 2014). The specific force model is shown as follow:…”

“…The aim is to improve the stress concentration caused by the abrupt change in the size of the ring edge. From the literature [20], we can know that the rock breaking capacity of disc cutters is related to the rock breaking angle, and the rock breaking angle is about 140° usually in order to improve the sharpness of the cutter ring which leads to the crack of rock propagation and coalescence easy. According to the project of rock high abrasion and no joint development status designed a small edge angle structure of the cutter ring as shown in Fig.…”
