A Method for PAPR Reduction Using Pilot Sequences in SC-FDMA

Abstract: In this paper, a method of reducing peak to average power ratio (PAPR) in 3GPP-LTE uplink (SC-FDMA) was proposed. We investigated the method of reducing PAPR using pilot sequences and detailed schemes. The advantages and disadvantages of Walsh-Hadamard Sequences were discussed. This kind of sequence is easy to use but is of high PAPR. Then we discussed several CAZAC sequences, mainly about phase shifted sequences, such as Chu sequence, Frank sequence and Golomb sequence. We also compared the differences betwee… Show more

“…Simulation parameters are as follows: sub-carrier number is N=64, 128, symbol rate is 100 symbol/cycle, modulation format is BPSK, oversampling rate is 4, length of CAZAC sequences is L=4, 8,16,32, and the number of CAZAC sequences is M=3, 7, 15, 31. Additionally, more kinds of phase rotation value sets are considered, such Table 1.…”

“…1) ZC sequence has constant amplitude. That is, ZC sequence is a kind of CAZAC sequence, which still keeps constant amplitude after DFT [8]. Constant amplitude character can restrict PAPR of sequences and limit interference to the other users.…”

“…Several newly proposed power amplifiers have the potential to work with high PAPR signals, such as Doherty amplifiers [9,12,17], but at the moment these technologies are at an experimental stage. Hence, several methods for reducing PAPR in OFDM-based systems have been proposed; such as pre-coding methods [2,4], probabilistic algorithms [9,18], and non-linear expanding and compressing methods [9,18].…”
