A MATLAB-based simulation program for indoor visible light communication system

Abstract: We report a simulation program for indoor visible light communication environment based on MATLAB and Simulink. The program considers the positions of the transmitters and the reflections at each wall. For visible light communication environment, the illumination light-emitting diode is used not only as a lighting device, but also as a communication device. Using the simulation program, the distributions of illuminance and root-mean-square delay spread are analyzed at bottom surface. I.

“…In the early literature, various VLC channel modelling studies were carried out, mainly adopted from earlier works on IR channel modelling including both deterministic [47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54] and non-deterministic approaches [55][56][57]. For example, in [47], the recursive method proposed in [36] was used to obtain CIR in VL band, but fixed reflectance was assumed. In [48], in an effort to reflect the effect of wavelength dependency in channel modelling, the reflectance values were calculated as the average of wavelength-dependent coefficients over the VL band.…”

“…Luminance of minimum 400 lx approximately or above is necessary, which is well within the illuminance requirements of working spaces within organizations as set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). 32 For our study, a single 21 × 21 cm commercial Philips white LED module, thus we will examine the square illumination configuration. Table 1 shows the light characteristics parameters, these statistics are then used to estimate different characteristics such as impulse response, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), etc.…”
