“…Looking at the publication years of the selected papers we see that the football players’ valuation has been a fast‐moving field in the recent years. Therefore, some of these research trends have already been under examination after our last search date, such as the validity of crowdsourced valuation methods (Campa, 2022), the development of advanced modeling techniques (Aydemir et al., 2022) or the strengthening of evidence on contractual information and valuation link (Poli et al., 2022).…”

“…One of the first works with this purpose was conducted by Carmichael et al (1999), whose econometric model estimated player transfer values based on their personal characteristics and productivity. Later, authors like Aydemir et al (2022), Lucifora and Simons (2003), Majewski (2016), Metelski (2021) Unlike previous studies, we adopted a panel data model with fixed-effect control variable for footballers, clubs and club-year interactions in order to provide the variation of non-observed characteristics over the years to control the number of omitted factors that vary over time. Fixed control effect models aim to introduce proxies of individual skills and other factors to control omitted variables that could determine footballer's market values.…”
