A Low Temperature Fabrication and Photoactivity of Al2TiO5 in Cinnamic Acid Degradation

Abstract: Aluminum titanate was fabricated by sol-gel method using aluminium nitrate, titanium isopropoxide as precursors and citric acid as a complexing reagent. Effects of calcination temperature, citric acid content and calcination duration on the formation of Al 2 TiO 5 (ATO) phase were investigated by X-ray diffraction. The results showed that the ATO-rich mixture with traces of anatase TiO 2 was obtained at low calcination temperature (700°C). The properties of obtained ATO were characterized by various methods su… Show more

“…17) Photocatalyst materials have been used for environmental treatment 18,19) and, over recent decades, several inorganic semiconductors have been studied due to their high oxidative performance without requiring chemicals or high temperatures. 20) They have been used in photovoltaic and photodegradation of organic pollutants in air and water. 21) Some commonly proposed materials are ZnO, 22) TiO 2 23) or CeO 2 24) nanoparticles, due to being non-toxic and biocompatible materials.…”

“…The photocatalytic activity of the samples was studied by the batch method in the photo-decomposition of CA (Aldrich, >99.9%) as described in our previous study [42]. The 250 ml of CA solution (50 mg l −1 ) was stirred in the dark for 40 min with analysis of the catalyst content in order to reach adsorption-desorption equilibrium.…”

“…To date, few publications have considered the activity of titanate-TiO 2 composite for the photodegradation of POPs in water. In our previous studies, heterostructure Al 2 TiO 5 -TiO 2 catalysts were synthesised by a sol-gel-based hydrothermal method in acidic (ATO-Ti(a)) [42] and neutral conditions (ATO-Ti(w)) [41] with different TiO 2 contents. Compared with the corresponding bare titanium oxide (TiO 2 ) as well as with Al 2 TiO 5 (ATO), the hybrid catalysts of optimal composition [33ATO-Ti(a) and 67ATO-Ti(w)] were found to exhibit enhanced photocatalytic activity in CA decomposition under ultraviolet light.…”
