A linear sequence to facilitate curation of herbarium specimens of Annonaceae

Abstract: Summary. This paper provides a linear sequence of four subfamilies, 15 tribes and 106 genera of the magnoliid family Annonaceae, based on state-of-the-art and stable phylogenetic relationships. The linear sequence facilitates the organisation of Annonaceae herbarium specimens.

“…(4) Dasymaschalon is polyphyletic, with three species ( D. filipes , D. longiflorum , and D. tibetense ) of intergeneric hybrid origin [45,105], which were therefore excluded from our study. (5) Winitia was included in Stelechocarpus , following recommendations by Turner [106] and Chatrou et al [13]. The richness data are provided in Supplementary Table S5.…”

“…Annonaceae are by far the most genus-rich and species-rich family-level clade in Magnoliales, with c. 110 genera and c . 2,400 species [10,12,13]. Four subfamilies are recognized in Annonaceae: Anaxagoreoideae (30 spp.)…”

“…Summary phylogeny of Malmeeae, adapted from Chatrou et al (2018). A putative synapomorphy for the the Malmea , Pseudoxandra and Cremastosperma clade is indicated; one node that is not subject to significant support is indicated with an asterisk.…”

“…Annonaceae, a pantropical family of flowering plants prominent in lowland rainforests, consist of 110 genera (Guo et al 2017;Chaowasku et al 2018a;Xue et al 2018) and approximately 2430 species (Chatrou et al 2018). The family has been classified into four subfamilies, viz., Anaxagoreoideae, Ambavioideae, Annonoideae, and Malmeoideae; the last two subfamilies, which constitute the majority of generic and species diversity in the family, have each been further subdivided into tribes (Chatrou et al 2012).…”
