A Lean Approach for Real-Time Planning and Monitoring in Engineer-to-Order Construction Projects

Abstract: Engineer-to-order (ETO) construction companies are characterized by an off-site and on-site production. Often, budget deviations for installation works on-site are identified in a late stage when improvement actions cannot be applied anymore. Consequently, installation tasks are often affected by significant delays and/or reworks. This work proposes a "real-time" capable approach for planning and monitoring in construction and a corresponding information technology (IT) framework. The core is represented by th… Show more

“…Continuous verification of a project's status allows site managers to identify problems early and make conscious decisions in time to prevent scheduling deviations [10]. In conventional processes, the monitoring and controlling of construction processes are mostly done by paper-based or simple IT (Information Technology) tools [11]. This is a time-consuming process that requires site managers to analyze and calculate huge amount of data and fill out paper forms.…”

“…According to many authors, the organizational roles involved in the collaboration between digital transformation and business process management can appear as process owner program manager, participation of internal and external stakeholders, participation of customers, project manager, CIO, Chief Technology Officers (CTO), CEO, CDO, IT process managers, etc. (e.g., Van Looy, 2018, Imgrund et al, 2018, Dallasega et al, 2018, Paschek et al, 2018…”

“…Much of the research is based on the China case. (2) PC supply chain process design and optimization (green nodes): focus on the modeling and simulation [53] of the four main parts of PCSCM: ordering [54], manufacturing [55], transportation and installation [56]. Genetic algorithm is the most commonly used algorithm.…”
