A Lab‐Built Hydride Generation Nebulizer for AAS

Abstract: A nebulizer for the hydride generation atomic-absorption spectrophotometry of As and Se, and Hg vapor generation is described, in which the gas flow, the reductant, and the sample are connected separately through three concentric channels. The sample and the reducing agent flow separately till they reach the air flow. The generated species are then mixed with the air carrier gas and transported into the flame of an AA spectrometer. Optimization of flame type, acid, and reductant concentrations was carried out.… Show more

“…142 There have also been several reports of procedures in which As was determined as part of a sequential multi-analyte suite. Benzo et al 155 constructed a hydride generation nebulizer, for the FAA determination of As, Hg and Se, in which the gas, reductant, and sample were delivered separately through three concentric channels. Iwashita et al 156 developed a procedure for the determination of 10 elements in coal and coal fly ash in which As and Se were determined in coal by HG-AAS following microwaveassisted acid digestion.…”

“…140 There are also reports of sequential multi-element AAS analyses including the analysis of (a) coal and coal fly ash, 156 and (b) foods. 158 Benzo et al 155 determined As, Se and Hg by generation of the volatile derivative with a nebulizer device consisting of three concentric tubes. Non-chromatographic speciation in waters has been reviewed, 133 which in the case of inorganic species is based on the selective generation from Se IV (Se VI being borohydride-inactive).…”
