The parking cruising problem can be attributed to the unbalanced spatial parking space occupancy in the parking lot with multiple trip purposes and high traffic volumes, and it has already become an obstacle to improving travel efficiency. This study aims to investigate the reasons for the unbalanced occupancy of parking spaces and develop strategies to achieve spatial equilibrium by reducing parking cruising time. A field survey is first conducted to analyze the factors influencing parking space choice behavior, such as searching distances, walking distances, parking price, and parkers’ attributes. Based on the survey, a mixed logit model is calibrated to reveal parking space choice patterns of different parkers. Afterwards, the parking lot is divided into three zones based on searching distances and walking distances, using the K-means algorithm. According to the results, a simulation-based optimization model is then established, for minimizing the variance of average occupancy. An optimal pricing strategy is obtained at last. A case study in Nanjing, China, is conducted to verify the feasibility and rationality of the proposed method. The difference between weekdays and weekends is explored. The results show that, with the optimal strategies, the standard deviation of average occupancy in each zone decreases by 39.52% during weekends and 42.29% during weekdays. Finally, political implications and recommendations on the layout design of facilities and the adoption of differential parking pricing strategies are provided.

Work characteristics and worker well-being are inextricably connected. In particular, the characteristics of work organization shape and perpetuate occupational stress, which contributes to worker mental health and well-being outcomes. Consequently, the importance of understanding and addressing connections between work organization, occupational stress, and mental health and well-being—the focus of this Special Issue—increasingly demand attention from those affected by these issues. Thus, focusing on these issues in the long-haul truck driver (LHTD) sector as an illustrative example, the purpose of this commentary is as follows: (1) to outline current research approaches and the extant knowledge base regarding the connections between work organization, occupational stress, and mental health; (2) to provide an overview of current intervention strategies and public policy solutions associated with the current knowledge base to protect and promote worker mental health and well-being; and (3) to propose a two-pronged agenda for advancing research and prevention for workers during the 21st century. It is anticipated that this commentary, and this Special Issue more broadly, will both echo numerous other calls for building knowledge and engaging in this area and motivate further research within complementary current and novel research frameworks.

Road accidents cause hundreds of fatalities and injuries each year; due to their size and operating features, heavy trucks typically experience more severe accidents. Many factors are likely to cause such accidents; however, statistics mainly blame human error. This paper analyses the risk of accidents for heavy vehicles, focusing on driver-related factors contributing to accidents. A model is developed to anticipate the probability of an accident by using Bayesian networks (BNs) and fuzzy logic. Three axioms were verified to validate the developed model, and a sensitivity analysis is performed to identify the factors that have the most significant influence over truck accidents. Subsequently, the result provided by the model was exploited to examine the effects of in-vehicle road safety systems in preventing road accidents via an event tree analysis. The results underlined a strong link between the occurrence of accidents and parameters related to the driver, such as alcohol and substance consumption, his driving style, and his reactivity. Similarly, unfavourable working conditions significantly impact the occurrence of accidents since it contributes to fatigue, one of the leading causes of road accidents. Also, the event tree analysis results have highlighted the importance of equipping trucks with these mechanisms.
