“…A. thaliana CDKG1 protein has a critical role in maintaining pollen fertility and yield at high ambient temperatures (Zheng et al ., 2014). CDKG1 is reported to function through the phosphorylation and/or regulation of the splicing of proteins involved in the early stages of meiotic division, possibly the synaptonemal complex protein 1 (SYP1) (Nibau et al ., 2020 a ). CDKG2 and the associated CYCL1 appear to act as a negative regulator of flowering timing (Ma et al ., 2015; Nibau et al ., 2020 b ), since in cdkg2‐1 as well as in the double cdkg2‐1;cycL1‐1 mutant lines, FLM‐δ was up‐regulated but FLM‐β down‐regulated, resulting in an early flowering phenotype in a temperature‐dependent manner, under both LD and SD conditions (Nibau et al ., 2020 b ).…”

“…In agreement, the long isoform could restore the cdkg1 mutant defect in terms of the male sterility at high temperature, while the short isoform could not. 80 The above mentioned results indicate CDKG1L and CDKG1S is regulated by temperature to antagonistically control pollen development. However, on the other hand, CDKG1L and CDKG1S synergistically mediate the correct splicing of U2AF65A in response to fluctuating ambient temperatures.…”

“…Besides the roles for AS of MP in ovule, AS of CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE G1 ( CDKG1 ) is implicated in pollen development in response to ambient temperature. 80 Two AS events resulted from CDKG1 via the selective intron mainly encodes two protein isoforms CDKG1L (long) and CDKG1S (short). The long isoform exclusively localized in the nuclear, but the short isoform lacking two out of four SR domains and NLS localized in both the nuclear and cytoplasm.…”

“…However, CDKG;2 acts in different biological processes than CDKG;1. CDKG;1 is essential for synapsis and recombination during male meiosis [ 71 , 72 ], while CDKG;2 is involved in flowering and response to heat and salt stresses [ 68 , 69 , 73 ]. Interestingly, the CDKG;1 transcript level decreased from G1/G0 to S and G2, although CDKG;2 expression stayed almost the same during cell cycle progression [ 13 ].…”
