This article proposes a planning approach for private forest holdings that have more than one decision maker, e.g. a heirship group or a joint ownership between siblings. Through a case study example, we illustrate the phases of the proposed planning process and describe the communication and planning tools used in this process. The final aim is that in the future the forest planners' toolkit would include this kind of approach for rather common situations where it is not easy to reach all the owners for synchronous face-to-face planning sessions. The process started with initial telephone interviews with the forest owners. From these interviews appropriate alternative forest plans were developed. Indicators and their values from the forest plans were inputted into the Mesta internet application. The forest owners were also given guidance on how to use the program. After this they were given time to independently use the program. Once the forest owners finished the use of the program, the results were collected and analyzed. Among the alternative forest plans, one was approved by all of the forest owners. The results of trial use involving a North-Karelian forest holding were encouraging. The main benefits of the approach according to the participants were learning that there are alternatives between which to choose, and reaching a common base level of understanding holding's production possibilities for future decisions. After developing the process and technical tools further, the proposed model could serve joint ownerships over distance also in practice and in larger scale, and, as a result, foster owners' engagement on their own forest.

Decision support systems (DSSs) are computer programs that, by using expert knowledge, simulation models and/or databases, are of assistance in the decision-making process as they offer management recommendations and/or options. The principal aim of DSS is to improve the quality, speed and effectiveness of decisions. Since their beginnings in the 1960s, DSSs have been established as being an effective decision-making tool in different areas including agriculture. Weed science has not been immune to their influence, and since the end of the 1980s, a batch of DSSs have been developed towards the recognition and identification of seeds and seedlings, herbicide selection and the economic assessment of management strategies. Despite being powerful tools, DSSs have certain constraints and also a given resistance to their use. I hope that this chapter will serve to give a general insight into DSSs and their use in weed science, as well as to encourage the spreading of these systems in order to establish sustainable agriculture.

Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) form an important area of research. In spite of its importance, it is difficult for researchers to evaluate the domain primarily because of a considerable spread of relevant literature in interdisciplinary domains. Previous surveys of CDSS have examined the domain from the perspective of individual disciplines. However, to the best of our knowledge, no visual scientometric survey of CDSS has previously been conducted which provides a broader spectrum of the domain with a horizon covering multiple disciplines. While traditional systematic literature surveys focus on analyzing literature using arbitrary results, visual surveys allow for the analysis of domains by using complex network-based analytical models. In this paper, we present a detailed visual survey of CDSS literature using important papers selected from highly cited sources in the Thomson Reuters web of science. We analyze the entire set of relevant literature indexed in the Web of Science database. Our key results include the discovery of the articles which have served as key turning points in literature. Additionally, we have identified highly cited authors and the key country of origin of top publications. We also present the Universities with the strongest citation bursts. Finally, our network analysis has also identified the key journals and subject categories both in terms of centrality and frequency. It is our belief that this paper will thus serve as an important role for researchers as well as clinical practitioners interested in identifying key literature and resources in the domain of clinical decision support.
