“…We previously reported that, in a feasibility study in Tokyo, the adherence to PrEP was as high as 95%. [23] The reason for this high adherence rate is possibly attributable to the limited access to PrEP and increased awareness of PrEP among MSM in Japan. As of March 2022, PrEP had not been approved in Japan and there was no public provision for PrEP.…”

“…Data from prior epidemic areas show that it is particularly common among MSM who are PWH and users of pre-exposure prophylaxis against HIV, who may be more likely to be diagnosed with mpox because they have better access to medical services that can manage mpox [ 3 , 4 ]. Hence, as with other STDs common among Japanese MSM [ 5 ], there are probably many undiagnosed cases of mpox, however reports examining the extent to which mpox is underdiagnosed in Western countries are scarce. On the other hand, it has been suggested that there may be many undiagnosed cases in Asian countries, where the incidence is currently low, due to a lack of diagnostic resources [ 6 , 7 ].…”

“…Not only for HCV, but likewise for all STDs, sexually active MSM are at the same increased risk of STDs regardless of whether or not they are PWH, and are likely to remain undiagnosed 8,9 . HIV postexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is becoming more widespread worldwide, and the number of HIV‐PrEP users is increasing in Japan 10 . Increasing opportunities for hospital visits and testing for STDs would lead to the uncovering of undiagnosed STDs 9–11 .…”

[9][10][11] Therefore, physicians need to be made widely aware of the need to consider HCV as an STD.…”
