A four port circularly polarized printed multiple‐input multiple‐output antenna with enhanced isolation

Abstract: In this article, a four-port circularly polarized printed multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) antenna is designed to cover Wi-Fi/WLAN (5 GHz), Wi-MAX (3.4-3.6), and C band applications, which consists of four trapezoidal shaped patches with microstrip feed. To achieve high isolation between the ports, the antenna elements are located orthogonally to each other. The antenna elements are separated by placing diagonal lines to further enhance the port isolation. Circular polarization is achieved by modifying the… Show more

“…To enhance simultaneous data streams, different researchers focus on designs with four port antennas with reduced mutual coupling [ 33 , 34 , 35 ]. A diagonal isolating network is introduced between neighboring radiating elements to provide high isolation of approximately 25 dB [ 33 ]. In spite of its wide IPBW, this antenna has a very narrow AR bandwidth (ARBW).…”

“…Multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) technology is one of the emerging technologies in the current wireless communications using multipath propagation in the constructive manner to enhance the data rates 1,2 . In MIMO technology, mainly two objectives are aimed at viz, QoS and higher data rates 3–6 . However, the major design challenge in the MIMO antennas is mutual coupling, which arises due to the close proximity of the antennas and the problem multiplies when a greater number of antennas are employed in the device 7,8 …”

[3][4][5][6] However, the major design challenge in the MIMO antennas is mutual coupling, which arises due to the close proximity of the antennas and the problem multiplies when a greater number of antennas are employed in the device. 7,8 Hence, the design of a MIMO antenna system with more than two antennas with improved isolation and at the same time maintaining wireless device size to be compact is a challenging task.…”

“…The circularly polarized antenna is not sensitive to the polarization of electromagnetic waves, can receive electromagnetic waves in any form of polarization, and also can avoid polarization loss caused by polarization mismatch. [4][5][6] The methods to achieve circular polarization include the single-feed method, 7,8 multi-feed method, [9][10][11] and the use of polarization converters. 12,13 The polarized reconfigurable antennas [14][15][16] can be converted between circular polarization and linear polarization.…”

“…The propagation of electromagnetic signals in space is becoming increasingly complex, and more and more interference factors have put forward a major challenge to the stability of wireless communication systems. The circularly polarized antenna is not sensitive to the polarization of electromagnetic waves, can receive electromagnetic waves in any form of polarization, and also can avoid polarization loss caused by polarization mismatch 4–6 . The methods to achieve circular polarization include the single‐feed method, 7,8 multi‐feed method, 9–11 and the use of polarization converters 12,13 .…”
