Developing teacher capability in implementing the Merdeka curriculum can take advantage of the activity of sustainable lesson study. Lesson study conducted at the subject teacher community provides a place for teachers to learn collaboratively to improve their professionalism. This study aims at present the findings of the implementation of a subject-based lesson study carried out among junior high school science teachers in Malang City, Indonesia, and expose their responses regarding the impact of this activity on their professional development in supporting the Merdeka Curriculum enactment. Teachers are actively involved and enthusiastic in participating in lesson study activities. The teacher stated that the implementation of subject-based lesson study was a forum for mutual learning and improving teaching skills so that it supported the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. Even so, continuous implementation accompanied by strengthening the principles of lesson study and learning principles that emphasize student involvement as well as developing students' thinking skills is needed. Finally, the constraints and expectations expressed by the teacher can be considered for designing a subject-based lesson study implementation model to form sustainable lesson study for learning communities in the future.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to systematically review the history and current state of lesson study (LS) in Germany. In particular, this paper describes the development of LS over time and its stakeholders.Design/methodology/approachConducting a systematic literature review, we searched three scientific databases and Google Scholar, examined 806 results and included 50 articles in our final sample, which we analyzed systematically.FindingsThe spread of LS in Germany can be divided into three phases, characterized by their own LS projects as well as their own ways of understanding LS. Although interest in LS has increased significantly in recent years, it is only present at a small number of schools and universities in Germany if compared internationally. Furthermore, this paper identifies the so-called learning activity curves as a tool frequently used for observation and reflection that appears to be unknown outside German-speaking countries.Originality/valueThis paper may act as an outline for countries without large-scale LS projects and with limited support from policymakers. The experience from Germany demonstrates the outcomes and challenges that can arise in such a situation and shows how unique LS features and proceedings have emerged.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan Lesson Study (LS) mahasiswa pada matakuliah strategi pembelajaran MIPA. LS dilaksanakan oleh mahasiswa PGMI IAIN Surakarta semester 5. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksploratif dalam bentuk LS yang dilakukan pada bulan November 2019. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi untuk kegiatan LS, dan kuesioner untuk mengetahui pendapat mahasiswa terkait LS yang disebarkan melalui google form dan dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebelum dilakukannya LS, 56,7% responden cenderung menghafal berbagai model pembelajaran pada matakuliah strategi pembelajaran MIPA. Penerapan LS siklus I menunjukkan adanya kesulitan yang dialami 70% responden karena masih belum terbiasanya dalam mempersiapkan, melaksanakan, mengamati, dan menganalisis pengajaran. Setelah dilakukan LS pada siklus II, 83,3% responden menyatakan LS sangat menyenangkan dan menarik untuk memahami karakter pembelajaran di kelas, 100% responden setuju apabila matakuliah strategi pembelajaran MIPA diterapkan dengan LS karena menurut 96,7% responden, LS dapat melatih mengembangkan pembelajaran yang inovatif, dan dapat langsung mengimplentasikan berbagai model pembelajaran, sehingga tidak hanya menghafal konsep.
