A Feline Case Suspected of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus with Membranous Nephropathy

Abstract: A skin biopsy was performed to the cat with erythema, scale, alopecia distributing from back to hip and erosion around eyes. Histopathological examination on the skin biopsy specimen suggested systemic lupus erythematosus as one of differential diagnoses. Antinuclear antibody and severe proteinuria with urinary casts were detected. By renal biopsy, membranous nephropathy was histopathologically diagnosed.

“…SLE is a multisystemic, immune‐mediated disease rarely diagnosed in the cat (Lusson and others, 1999, Scott and others 1995, Alexander and others 1996, Bennett and Nash, 1988, Kuwahara and others 2007). Due to the involvement of multiple organ systems, SLE can mimic a variety of diseases, can be difficult to recognise and is frequently misdiagnosed especially in the early stages.…”
