A Feasibility Study for Agriculture Tractors Electrification: Duty Cycles Simulation and Consumption Comparison

Abstract: This paper presents a feasibility study for the electrification of a farming tractor. In such an application the working cycle is not that trivial and then the system design is not straightforward: power has to be supplied at both road and power take off for implements. The purpose of this paper is to prove the convenience in adopting hyrid tractor. Therefore, duty cycles and powertrains for agriculture are introduced. Then, by means of simulations, consumptions are compared between traditional and hybrid trac… Show more

“…This latter case brings interesting benefits, such as the reduction of local emissions on crop fields or inside greenhouses, as well as the reduction of noise and vibration, improving the comfort and health of operators. Other studies regarding the advantages in terms of the consumption and working autonomy have been carried out [8,9].…”

“…In this regard, Refs. [17][18][19] investigated the electrification of agricultural tractors, but each one used different duty cycles, without mentioning anything about the DLG Power Mix or the AG Tract Drive cycle (Figure 2).…”
