A distributed toolbox for multidisciplinary preliminary aircraft design

Abstract: In 2005, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) started an internal project, called TIVA, with the main goal to strengthen the multidisciplinary collaboration in the field of conceptual aircraft design. This approach was intended not only to couple disciplinary analysis tools from different institutes, but also to establish a process which keeps the disciplinary experts in the loop as well. Linking the tools and corresponding experts, this process should finally enable each discipline to study the consequences of t… Show more

“…Besides, parameterization is also a necessity when we consider the further air transport level estimation of emissions, noise, direct operating costs, or life cycle costs, which are dependent on aircraft parameters and operation parameters. Currently, there are several prevailing ways used in industries and academia for aircraft parameterization [41,42], and most have the capability to work with the DLR CPACS data format [44,45]. In the present modelling, the parameterization method is also based on DLR CPACS format.…”

“…Borja et al [13] developed models for the product design and manufacturing data that enabled concurrent design work by people with different expertise and using different software. Liersch and Hepperle [14] developed an integrated framework to enable multidisciplinary collaboration for aircraft design. To achieve this they created a new data exchange file format called CPACS to establish communication between all disciplines.…”

“…The design scenario defines the level of the user's involvement into the designing process. Implication of the design scenarios allows for tuning of the interface towards individual needs of users within a single design environment utilizing the same interface rules and allowing, if needed, natural translation between the design scenarios [5].…”
