A discovery scheme for device-to-device communications in synchronous distributed networks

Abstract: Abstract-Device-to-Device (D2D) communications have been proposed as a means of realizing the potential advantage of the physical proximity of communicating devices, improving user experience and resource utilization. Discovery is one of the major design issues in the D2D communications, since they must discover each other and identify services provided by each other to directly communicate with one another. There are some requirements for discovery such as energy-efficiency (e.g. low duty cycle), scalability … Show more

“…When M ≥ 2250 (N ≥ 5), the average delay increases to a constant value, while the number of discovered UEs still decreases. This is anticipated from the definition of the average delay in (9).…”

“…Another key point of the direct D2D discovery is to reduce collision. Currently, greedy-selection based discovery methods are widely proposed [8], [9]. Greedy selection requires UEs to scan the whole resource before selecting the most optimistical resource, which can avoid some interference in a degree.…”

“…Autonomous device discovery using conventional half duplex (HD) transmission mode has been studied by the research community [4,5,7], whereas few works consider FD technology [8][9][10]. A synchronous distributed ad-hoc network is studied in [5], focusing on optimizing the discovery latency and the number of discovered devices.…”
