A dependability profile within MARTE

Abstract: The importance of assessing software non-functional properties (NFP) beside the functional ones is well accepted in the software engineering community. In particular, dependability is a NFP that should be assessed early in the software life-cycle by evaluating the system behaviour under different fault assumptions. Dependability-specific modeling and analysis techniques include for example Failure Mode and Effect Analysis for qualitative evaluation, stochastic Petri nets for quantitative evaluation, and fault … Show more

“…We can assess the level of reliability in an implemented system that was built with the use of reliability patterns by evaluating different reliability metrics. There are many metrics in the literature [3,16,17,22,27,28] that can be used to calculate the reliability using data collected by monitoring an implemented system. We have selected some reliability metrics from the literature and proposed some of our own.…”

“…Bernardi et al [3] proposed an approach called MARTE-DAM for dependability modeling and analysis using UML. MARTE-DAM extends UML and includes features for the modeling, evaluation, and analysis of real-time systems.…”

“…In particular, MARTE allows one to specify non-functional properties (NFPs) according to a well-defined Value Specification Language (VSL) syntax. MARTE was specialized for dependability modeling and analysis (DAM) in [6]. The DAM profile has been used so far to annotate dependability properties at the software design level, in particular, reliability, availability, maintainability and safety properties.…”

“…The misuse cases "Payload corruption" and "Payload crash" are selected (lines 6,8) in the current iteration. The former is updated with information related to mitigation activities performed by the Proactive-Reactive Recovery Service use case.…”
