A Decade of Living Lobar Lung Transplantation: Perioperative Complications after 253 Donor Lobectomies

Abstract: Living lobar lung transplantation places two donors at risk for each recipient. We examined the perioperative outcomes associated with the 253 donor lobectomies performed at our institution during our first decade of living lobar lung transplantation. There have been no perioperative or long-term deaths. 80.2% of donors (n = = 203) had no perioperative complications, while fifty (19.8%) had one or more complication. The incidence of intraoperative complications was 3.6%. Complications requiring reoperation occ… Show more

“…Sabe-se que uma lobectomia pulmonar, mesmo em pacientes sadios, não é desprovida de riscos. Na avaliação de 253 doadores, Bowdish et al obtiveram 19,8% de morbidade com nenhum óbito 10 . Em recente publicação, nosso grupo reportou as complicações com 32 doadores, com 31,25% de morbidade e zero de mortalidade 11 .…”

“…Although several studies, including the recently published largest series from 2 large centers in the United States, have described the pre-operative and post-operative characteristics and assessed the outcomes of living lobar lung donors, 1,2,[4][5][6][7][8] there are insufficient updated and recent studies on LDLLT. This study comprehensively evaluated the outcomes of donor lobectomies in recent years by reviewing pre-operative characteristics, intraoperative findings, post-operative complications, and post-operative pulmonary function.…”
