A crosstalk of auxin and GA during tuber development

Abstract: Several hormones have been studied for their effect on tuber initiation and development. Until recently, the hormone with the most prominent role in tuber initiation was attributed to GA. Genes involved in GA degradation do exhibit an upregulated profile during early stages of tuber development, leading to a rapid decrease of active GA content, thereby facilitating stolon-tip swelling. While GA is known to be involved in shoot and stolon elongation, the development of the new tuberorgan requires changes in mer… Show more

“…Several authors have reported the prominent role of endogenous hormones in tuber formation (Abdala et al, 2002;Fujino et al, 1995;Roumeliotis et al, 2012;Lucas-Borjaa et al, 2016). The results of this study showed that under different salinity stress, the endogenous IAA and GA3 in leaves of Nanyu No.1 changed with the biomass trend of change was consistent, and the peak in the largest amount of dry matter accumulation in shoot period, which indicated that the level of IAA and GA3 in leaves increased to promote growth.…”

“…In recent years, numerous studies have reported crosslinks between auxin and otherPGRs, such as cytokinins (Choi et al 2014;Dello Ioio et al 2008;Zhou et al 2011;Zhu et al 2015), abscisic acid (Zhao 2014), ethylene (Alarcon et al 2014), brassinosteroids (Maharjan et al 2014;Vandenbussche et al 2013;Yoshimitsu et al 2011), gibberellins (Chapman et al 2012;Roumeliotis et al 2012) and jasmonic acid (Cai et al 2014;He and Zhao 2015;Hentrich et al 2013). These results expand our knowledge of how plants not only maintain PGR homeostasis but also signal between the different hormone pathways.…”

“…In our study, we observed that IAA content was positively correlated with GA 3 in tubers, with GA 3 content being relatively higher than that of IAA because GA 3 mediated stolon elongation and relatively low IAA maintained stolon apical dominance (Roumeliotis et al, 2012) (Fig. 3).…”
