A Cross-Layer Watermarking-Based Mechanism for Data Aggregation Integrity in Heterogeneous WSNs

Abstract: Ensuring data aggregation integrity introduces new challenges for data aggregation security protocols in heterogeneous wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we propose an efficient watermarking based security strategy to ensure data aggregation integrity in heterogeneous WSNs. The proposed security scheme suggests a new fragile watermarking technique based on a dynamic embedding mechanism and a cross-layer approach. Compared to the existing heterogeneous security solutions, our system respects the resources… Show more

“…The technique is simple but not secure. CLWDA [16] is another fragile watermarking mechanism that adopts two types of watermarks. The first is called fragile watermark (FW) that is used to validate data sent from the first level of the network.…”

“…There is a considerable amount of surveys in the literature that discuss WSN technologies in general [1]- [7].The complete literature survey of security issues in cross layer discuss in [8]- [10]. Djallel Eddine Boubiche et al [8] introduce a protocol for security in distributed environment for secure communication. Proposed protocol improves security between sensor devices.…”

“…There is no discussion about watermark invisibility and watermark robustness of the presented scheme. 8) Recently, Boubiche et al [88] proposed a lightweight security protocol named Cross Layer Watermarking based Data Aggregation (CLWDA) to ensure integrity of aggregated data in heterogeneous WSNs. The cross-layer refers to the interaction between the Network layer and Mac layer to determine the wake-up time of sensors, which is used to decide the position of watermarks within data packets.…”
