A critical review of the performance, combustion, and emissions characteristics of PCCI engine controlled by injection strategy and fuel properties

Abstract: As internal combustion engines (ICEs) produce serious emissions and a big part of greenhouse gases from fuel combustion. Due to the universal concerns about degradation in the ambient environment, limitations on exhaust emissions, depletion of petroleum reserves, and global warming, many strict regulations have been launched on the standard emissions released from engines. These challenges oblige engine researchers worldwide to develop a new strategic balance between engine performance and emissions. Premixed … Show more

“…This review examines the practical and theoretical effects of biodiesel produced using waste cooking oil [43,44] and hydrodynamic cavitation on the performance metrics used to test compression ignition engines. Biodiesel is gaining popularity around the world because of the grave concerns about energy security and the inadequate nature of fossil fuels [45][46][47]. Numerous nations have proposed various subsidies, incentives, and systems to promote the use of biodiesel [48][49][50][51].…”

“…The better thermal efficiency, reliability, and durability of diesel engines (compression ignition-CI) making it more widely used in transportation sector and a variety of industry applications [1][2][3]. However, it suffers from higher emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and soot emissions and excessive noise due to it has high diffusion combustion ratios and improper fuel mixing which are challenges with its combustion process [4][5][6][7].…”

“…Most of the present transportation system relies on liquid hydrocarbon fuels [12,13]. It uses about 60% of global oil demand and produces a huge amount of excessive GHG and other air pollution emissions [14][15][16]. Road vehicles are consuming most of the transportation oil demand [17].…”
