A Cost-Effective and Low-Complexity Predictive Control for Matrix Converters Under Unbalanced Grid Voltage Conditions

Abstract: Due to no dc-link energy storage element in the matrix converter (MC), its input and output performances are highly sensitive to the unbalanced grid conditions. In order to mitigate the adverse effects of the unbalanced grid voltages, this paper proposes a simple and effective control strategy based on the finite-control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC). In this case, an extended instantaneous power theory is adapted to generate the source current references. As a result, both sinusoidal source currents … Show more

“…No doubt, based on recent research progress, the v ok can be generated using collections of PWM duty cycles calculated by various algorithms, which are widely reported in the literature as a direct Venturini based methods, space vector approach [17], [18] or carrier-based modulation methods [1]- [3], [19]- [25]. A quite interesting approach to the AC-AC voltage synthesis represents the Model Predictive Control (MPC) with a finite control set and space vector modulation (SVM), which are the most common control methods for the CMC3 × 3 [23], [26], [27]. However, the possible range of PWM duty cycle values for m × n topology, is rarely discussed and analyzed in papers, moreover the general formula of direct AC-AC synthesis for any set of input voltages is not fully developed and demonstrated.…”

“…The PWM duty cycle collection d 11d 53 can be calculated using the Wachspress full form (23) or simplified (45) due to the input voltage symmetry assumption. This computation method has been applied to both types of trajectory, thus the maximum voltage transfer ratios, represented by the equations (42) and (43) respectively, could be successfully obtained.…”

“…It must be noticed that an MC vertical arm corresponds to a row of the matrix S. For controlling the MC, several modulation techniques have been proposed in the literature [22], [23], [38], [39], where each one exhibits particular beneficial properties. Some of them are categorized as Direct Duty-Cycle Methods, where elements in matrix S are defined by their average values computed over a switching period (T sw ).…”
