“…The literature search results are summarized in Figure 1 . The final analysis covered a total of 42 studies (35 case reports 1 , 2 , 12 - 44 and 7 case series 5 , 9 , 45 - 49 ) reporting 85 individual cases that met the inclusion criteria and did not present exclusion criteria. The median age of the subject with the reported C. striatum invasive infection was 65 (IQR 51, 72), with the oldest being 88 years old, while the youngest was 13 years old.…”

“…Biofilm makes bacteria more resistant to the action of immune system cells and antibiotics, which explains the growing number of bloodstream and catheter-related infections caused by C. striatum 50 , 51 . Microbial biofilms play a key role in the pathogenesis of endocarditis 53 , which may explain the fact that this review includes as many as 10 reports of endocarditis caused by C. striatum 12 , 20 , 21 , 24 - 27 , 29 , 42 , 43 . We also analyzed more than 10 cases with C. striatum prosthetitis, catheter-related infections and similar infections on embedded artificial devices and materials 2 , 5 , 9 , 19 , 22 , 30 , which are most likely a consequence of the aforementioned virulence factor available to this bacterium.…”

“…Approximately 0.2 to 0.4% of native valve endocarditis is caused by Corynebacterium spp., while 9% of early and 4% of late prosthetic valve endocarditis are caused by members of the genus [ 9 , 10 ]. Although patients with implanted CRT-D may develop infectious endocarditis, obvious vegetation was never observed on echocardiography in these cases [ 11 ]. In addition, there is a report of a patient who underwent hemodialysis and developed sepsis caused by a Corynebacterium sp.…”

“…17 Most of the cases are managed with device removal and 2 weeks (uncomplicated) to 6 weeks (complicated) of targeted antibiotic therapy. 19 In light of this, C. striatum constitutes a rare cause of CIED infection with an unclear mortality; all patients reported thus far have survived via a combination of device removal and systemic antimicrobial therapy. 10,15,18 To our knowledge, 3 prior cases of CIED infection involving C. striatum are described in the literature: a case of tricuspid valve endocarditis in relation to a draining sinus tract contiguous to the generator device after recurrent erosions requiring 2 premorbid generator replacements; the second 2 months post pacemaker replacement with overt pocket infection leading to a lead vegetation.…”
