A Conformal Quasi-Isotropic Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Wireless Capsule Endoscope Application

Abstract: A conformal quasi-isotropic dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is first investigated for wireless capsule endoscope (WCE) application under the 5.8-GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) standard. The probe-fed hemispherical DRA (HDRA) is studied to match the shape of the spherical dome end, and the characteristic mode analysis (CMA) tool is applied to analyze the resonant modes of the proposed antenna to reveal the intrinsic behavior of the dielectric resonator. It is found that the quasi-isotropic rad… Show more

“…Such antennas are useful in applications where the relative position of the receive and the transmit antennas is uncertain or keeps changing. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, wireless endoscopy, energy harvesting, wireless Access Points (APs), Internet of Things (IoTs), and antennas for Satellites and drones are examples of such applications [1][2][3][4][5][6].…”

“…The wireless medical capsule endoscopy (WMCE) is promising in medical domain owing to its more convenient technique than traditional endoscopy on gastrointestinal (GI) operation. WMCE provides accurate diagnostic information by establishing a communication link between the in-body device and outside equipment [1][2][3]. In WMCE systems, the antenna is one of the most pivotal components, which can ensure information transmission [4] rate in the link.…”
