A computational modeling for real ecosystems based on P systems

Abstract: In this paper, a P systems based general framework for modeling ecosystems dynamics is presented. Particularly, ecosystems are specified by means of multienvironment P systems composed of a finite number of environments, each of them having an extended P system with active membranes. The semantics is of a probabilistic type and it is implemented by assigning each rule of the system a probabilistic constant which depends on the environment and the run time. As a case study, two real ecosystems are described: sc… Show more

“…An important concept to define entropies for P system is to establish whether the objects are produced in a stochastic/probabilistic manner or not. For the former, the probabilistic distribution is carried out by the definition of stochastic/probabilistic P systems such as Dynamical Probabilistic P systems (DPP) [15] or Population Dynamics P Systems (PDP) [5], together with their simulation algorithms [3,11,12].…”

“…The main systems that have been proposed to calculate the configurations in a probabilistic/stochastic manner have been Dynamical Probabilistic P systems (DPP) [15], including the τ -DPP systems [4], or Population Dynamics P Systems (PDP) [5]. In both cases, there are simulation algorithms that manage the configurations evolution in order to produce the desired stochastic/probabilistic effect [1,3,[9][10][11][12].…”

“…Based on this framework, several ecosystem models have already been presented. Some examples are the population dynamics of Gypaetus barbatus [4] and Rupicapra p. pyrenaica [8] in the Catalan Pyrenees, as well as the population density of Dreissena polymorpha in Ribarroja reservoir [3]. Some of the assets of this framework are the ability to analyse the simultaneous evolution of a high number of species, as well as the management of a large number of auxiliary objects.…”
