A comprehensive review on the grinding process: Advancements, applications and challenges

Abstract: Grinding is a manufacturing process which significantly contributes in producing high precision and durable components required in numerous applications such as aerospace, defence and automobiles. This review article is focused to uncover history, witness the present and predict the future of the grinding process. While going through the literature, it has been observed that minimal work has been done in explaining the history, present status and future scopes of the grinding process. In this era of informatio… Show more

“…Grinded samples do not have clear color characteristics, and direct photography of the sample does not provide important color difference information (Kishore et al, 2022). Therefore, image processing is a new way to take advantage of the quality of the virtual image of the polished surface in the reference color image to detect the roughness of the polished surface.…”

“…In addition, because of high heat generation while grinding, there are always possibilities for microstructural alteration of the work surface. It results in the reduction of strength, hardness and appearance alteration to the ground surface because of residual stresses and phase transformation (Kishore et al , 2022).…”

“…The errors in the longitudinal section of the workpiece that occur during machining are caused by the low and uneven stiffness of the technological system, the main elements of which are the workpiece, the centers in which it is mounted, and the cutting tool [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ]. The compliance (flexibility) of such a system can be altered by changing the stiffness of the centers or increasing the stiffness of the part in the machining process, for example, as a result of applying the appropriately defined bending moments [ 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 ].…”
