A Comprehensive Assessment of the Safety of Blautia producta DSM 2950

Abstract: In recent years, Blautia has attracted attention for its role in ameliorating host diseases. In particular, Blautia producta DSM 2950 has been considered a potential probiotic due to its ability to mitigate inflammation in poly(I:C) induced HT-29 cells. Thus, to promote the development of indigenous intestinal microorganisms with potential probiotic function, we conducted a comprehensive experimental analysis of DSM 2950 to determine its safety. This comprised a study of its potential virulence genes, antibiot… Show more

“…Red blood cells and hemolysin (an immunogenic novel toxin with hemolytic), when activated by complement, can dissolve the antibody and then damage the red blood cells, resulting in a cascade of events such as anemia [ 27 , 28 ]. To determine the type of hemolysis, blood agar plates were used.…”

“…During the entire treatment, there was no effect of oral administration on the body weight and mortality in both control and experimental groups. In preceding studies, the feeding of 10 10 CFU/mL of LAB isolates did not influence body weight, general signs, and food consumption during the acute oral toxicity testing [ 28 , 36 ]. The serum biochemistry results in Table 3 showed that all groups exhibited normal ranges of hematological parameters [ 37 ].…”

“…Previous studies exhibited that probiotics have promising potential in reducing the incidence and mortality of colitis [7,8]. Blautia is widely distributed in the feces and intestines of mammals and has attracted growing interest due to its potential correlations with alleviation of metabolic and inflammatory diseases, and inhibition of specific bacterial growth [9][10][11]. Previous studies revealed that the abundance of Blautia is positively associated with the improvement of lipid metabolism [12] and the protein and gene expressions of ZO-1 and occluding [13].…”

“…The human gut bacteria Blautia produca isolated from feces whose species belonging to the Lachnospiraceae family had rapidly attracted more attention for its capabilities to alleviate inflammatory, metabolic disorders and its antibacterial properties against particular microorganisms since its discovery [ 44 , 45 ]. It could be used as a probiotic in food, medicinal and culinary preparations [ 46 ].…”
