A Comparison of the Point of Deflection from Linearity of Heart Rate and the Ventilatory Threshold in the Determination of the Anaerobic Threshold in Indian Boys

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to assess whether the point of deflection from linearity of heart rate (HRD) could be used as an alternative method to determine the ventilatory threshold (VT) in Indian (Bengali) boys that represents the determination of the anaerobic threshold (AT), and also to standardize an exercise test to be effective in eliciting AT in Indian (Bengali) boys by using HRD. Twenty six (26) boys with a mean age of 12.8 (+/-1.18) years performed a graded maximal exercise test on a treadmill to de… Show more

“…Several studies in the literature have demonstrated the application of the HRDP to determine the AT in different land-based exercise modalities [10][11][12]15,[25][26][27] . However, in the aquatic environment there are, currently, few studies available.…”

“…The agreement between the ventilatory method (VT) and HRDP has already been observed in several modalities in healthy individuals [16][17][18][19][20][21][22] and in type 2 diabetes patients 23 . However, no study was found aiming to verify whether HRDP can be used to identify AT in dyslipidaemic patients.…”

“…As well in two different protocols standard treadmill test (increment 1 km/h every 60 s) and fast treadmill test (increment 1 km/h every 30 s), authors evaluating 51 subjects and HR DP was evident in 47 (Sentija et al, 2007). Several authors conclude that HR DP may be an accurate predictor of AnT in most but not all subjects (Debray & Dey, 2007) It seems that HR DP it is an accurate way to determine AnT when considered: monitoring HR every 30 s, incremental protocols with initial speeds of 8 m/s increased from 1 km/h every 30 or 60 s and consider to use track or field protocols, even to control variables becomes even more complex in this environment is the closest to reality where the athlete develops.…”

“…Такође у два различита протокола стандардног теста на тредмил траци (повећање од 1 km/h на сваких 60 s) и брзог теста на траци за трчање (повећање од 1 km/h на сваких 30 s), аутори су оцењивали 51 испитаника и ХР ДП је била евидентна код њих 47 (Sentija et al, 2007). Неколико аутора закључује да ХР ДП може бити прецизан предиктор анаеробног прага код већине, али не и код свих испитаника (Debray & Dey, 2007).…”
