A comparison of NCT, Goldman application tonometry values with and without fluorescein

Abstract: PurposeThe aim of the study was to statistically compare intraocular pressure (IOP) values measured using noncontact tonometer (NCT), Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) with fluorescein (fGAT), and GAT without fluorescein (nGAT). The study was also performed to test whether the values obtained using each technique change in accordance with the central corneal thickness (CCT) and refractive and keratometric values.Study designThis study was a prospective study of 188 eyes of 94 healthy volunteers. Methods: IO… Show more

“…This is due to the viscoelastic property of the cornea in which stiffness is associated with the degree of application of tension ( 20 22 ). Similar studies have reported that NCT is affected more by CCT than GAT ( 23 , 24 ). In another study among a keratoconus population, the same findings were reported ( 25 ).…”

“…Erdogan et al 18 conducted a study to compare intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements by noncontact tonometer (NCT), Goldmann applanation tonometry with fluorescein (fGAT), and GAT without fluorescein (nGAT). They also assessed the effect of central corneal thickness (CCT) and keratometric values on IOP.…”

“…Although uorescein as a dye enhances the visualization of mires, it is not without its challenges in clinical practice. First, the use of the dye has not been standardized such that too much or too little uorescein affects the diameter of the mires leading to under-or over-estimation of IOP respectively [4].…”
