Background: Purpose of this study is comparing early maladaptive schemas which are active in patients suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety disorders together, considering recent DSM-5 changes through which OCD has been placed in a separate and new diagnostic level.Methodology: This research is a causal-comparative study. 151 persons were categorized in three groups of people suffering from OCD (50), suffering from anxiety disorders (50), and control group (51). Early diagnosis of disorders in two clinical groups were verified based on structured clinical interview for DSM (SCID-I) and Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive scale (Y-BOCS). General health questionnaire (GHQ-28), the short versions of the Young schemas questionnaire (YSQ), and Padua inventory-Washington State University Revision (PI-WSUR) were also implemented. Findings:Findings revealed that mean scores of all schemas of those suffering from anxiety disorders, except for Self-Sacrifice, Unrelenting-Standards/Hypercriticalness, Entitlement/Grandiosity schemas, and mean scores of all early maladaptive schemas of those suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder are significantly higher than those of control group. OCD group had significantly higher scores in Emotional Deprivation, Mistrust/Abuse, and Defectiveness/Shame schemas than anxiety disorders group. Defectiveness/Shame and Vulnerability to Harm or Illness schemas can explain 38 percent of variance of obsessive compulsive symptoms. Conclusion:The dominant and specific early maladaptive schemas of OCD are Defectiveness/Shame, Mistrust/Abuse, and Emotional Deprivation Schemas. This study besides supporting the theory of early maladaptive schemas, suggests that interventions based on specific schemas can be useful methods in treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders.

rESUMoObjetivo: Este estudo objetiva apresentar as propriedades psicométricas do Questionário de Esquemas de Young -forma reduzida (YSQ-S2). Método: Foi realizado um estudo quantitativo, transversal, comparando um grupo clínico de alcoolistas com um grupo não clínico. Os resultados foram analisados com o alfa de Cronbach, o teste t de Student e a Análise Discriminante. A amostra da pesquisa foi constituída por 107 sujeitos, sendo 51 alcoolistas e 56 de uma amostra populacional do grupo de não alcoolistas. Resultados: Foram encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas cinco áreas e nos 15 esquemas avaliados pelo questionário YSQ-S2 quando comparados os grupos clínico e não clínico. Conclusão: Foi observado que o YSQ-S2 é um instrumento capaz de detectar diferenças entre populações clínicas e não clínicas, sendo um importante recurso para uma avaliação mais profunda do funcionamento da personalidade do paciente. aBStraCtObjective: This study aims at presenting the psychometric properties of the Young Schema Questionnaire -short form (YSQ-S2). Method: We conducted a quantitative study, cross-sectional comparing a clinical with a non-clinical group and Cronbach's alpha, t test Student and Discriminant Analysis were used to analyze the results. The sample consisted of 107 subjects, 51 alcoholics and 56 non-alcoholics. Results: Statistically significant differences were found in the five areas and the 15 schemes assessed by the YSQ-S2 questionnaire when comparing the clinical and non-clinical groups. Conclusion: YSQ-S2 was found to be an instrument that can detect differences between clinical and non-clinical populations, its use being essential for a deeper assessment of the patient's personality.

Prevalence of Unhealthy Lifestyle Patterns Among Overweight and Obese Adults

This study determined the prevalence of unhealthy eating, exercise, and coping pattern traits among a large sample of overweight and obese adults. We analyzed responses to a 53‐item lifestyle pattern questionnaire posted on a commercial weight loss program Web site collected from 2004 through 2008. Subjects included 446,608 healthy weight, overweight, and obese adults, 18–65 years old, average age 31.9 (s.d. = 11.8), average BMI 30.5 kg/m2 (s.d. = 7.5). Categorically, 25.5% were healthy weight, 29.0% were overweight, 33.7% were class I–II obesity, and 11.8% class III obesity. A stratified random sample was used to estimate the prevalence of the 21 lifestyle patterns (7 eating, 7 exercise, and 7 coping) in the general population, and the prevalence of patterns in the complete dataset was further analyzed by gender, age, and BMI. Finally, we analyzed the odds ratio of the pattern prevalence for each BMI category. We found that unhealthy lifestyle patterns in diet, exercise, and coping were highly prevalent among this population. In general, the prevalence of these patterns rose with increasing BMI and is correlated with advancing age. Gender differences were seen with many of the patterns, most noticeably among the coping patterns. The odds ratio for 18 of the 21 patterns was >1.0 and steadily increased with higher BMI categories. We conclude that unhealthy lifestyle patterns in diet, exercise, and coping are highly prevalent among the overweight and obese population. Pattern recognition represents a new method to analyze the cluster of behaviors, attitudes, and traits seen among this population.
