“…For example, catalposide could be hydrolyzed to 4-hydroxybenzoic acid catalyzed by carboxylesterases 1 and 2 . Sirajuddin et al revealed the degradation product of malathion by carboxylesterase of Escherichia coli IES-02. Meanwhile, carboxylesterase is considered to be an important detoxification enzyme for insect resistance in the prevailing view.…”

“…The enzymatic degradation of pesticides can either be performed by intracellular enzymes that are present in the microbial cell or by extracting the enzymes capable of degradation from the cells. Sirajuddin et al [ 100 ] isolated the E. coli IES-02 strain from a site contaminated with the organophosphate malathion, and the strain showed efficient degradation, utilizing it as the sole carbon source. They also purified carboxylesterase enzyme from the IES-02 strain and achieved 81% malathion degradation under optimized conditions within 20 min, whereas the IES-02 cell degradation was completed from 99.0% to 95.0% within 4 h. However, the extracted enzymes can be affected by solution properties, such as pH, temperature, etc.…”

“…Besides herbicides, malathion organophosphates are considered as a major constituent of pesticides and insecticides. Extensively used in agricultural, horticultures and for numerous household applications, malathion is among the major organic pollutants, having leading antagonistic effects on human health and environment 584 . Detoxification of malathion from these contaminated sites has also been achieved by the Carboxylesterase produced by several bacterial species, including Bacillus thuringiensis MOS-5 and Sphingobium yanoikuyae strain P4.…”
