“…Solid liver lesions accessible by EUS may be safely sampled by EUS-FNA. The use of stylet during FNA does not appear to confer any advantage with regards to the adequacy of specimen or diagnostic yield of malignancy [9] . In a prospective study of 132 subjects with newly diagnosed tumors, the diagnostic accuracy of EUS/ EUS-FNA and CT scan in detecting hepatic metastasis was 98% and 92%, respectively (P = 0.0578) [10] .…”

“…The yield for malignancy is similar with or without use of a stylet (87% vs 83%) [62][63][64], but in some studies sample adequacy was significantly better when a stylet was used (75% vs 87%) [62]. Also.…”

“…Also. The amount of blood in the sample was greater when the stylet was used (75% vs 52%) [62][63][64]. Although no conclusion has yet been drawn, the ESGE recommendations leave it to the discretion of the endosonographer whetherto use a stylet or not [49].…”

“…Certain neoplasms, including lymphomas, stromal tumors and well-differentiated neoplasias are difficult to diagnose without histological samples, since tissue architecture and cell morphology are essential for accurate pathological assessments, which include immunohistochemical analyses in such cases (12)(13)(14). In addition, the accuracy of EUS-FNA depends on the presence of an on-site cytopathologist or cytotechnician to assess the specimen adequacy (15), and to determine whether additional samples are required to perform ancillary studies (16,17).In an attempt to overcome these diagnostic limitations and optimize the accuracy, efficiency and quality of EUS-FNA specimens, various investigators have attempted to obtain tissue fragments with high negative pressure or with needles of varying diameters (18)(19)(20)(21) …”
