A compact millimeter-wave comb generator for calibrating broadband vector receivers

Abstract: Abstract-We propose a compact and low-cost waveform source that can be used to calibrate the magnitude and phase response of vector receivers over a bandwidth as large as a few gigahertz. The generator consists of a broadband comb generator followed by a filter and amplifier. As a demonstration, we constructed and calibrated a source suitable for calibrating vector signal analyzers operating between 43 GHz and 46.5 GHz. We then used the source to characterize the response of a commercially available vector sig… Show more

“…Other Jacobian matrices have the same numerator as equation ( 6) and are found by replacing only the denominator with their partial derivatives. Figure 7 shows the measurement pulse v scope and the Jacobian matrix J pulse calculated in equation (6). As expected, the Jacobian matrix value is large, near 1 ns, where the voltage of the pulse drops significantly.…”

“…Thus, the RF comb generator always produces the same phase relationship between all comb frequencies. As a result, the RF comb generators are used as the phase reference in many applications: nonlinear VNA phase calibration, 2 oscilloscope frequency response calibration, [3][4][5] vector signal analyzer calibration, 6 and so on.…”
