We provide a molecular phylogenetic analysis of the Laelia alliance based on sampling of 20 of an estimated 24 species, and seven plastid regions plus nrITS 1 & 2 analyzed using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference. Furthermore, we used coded indels to evaluate their effect on the phylogenetic relationships and/or support values (bootstrap and posterior probabilities). Our results confirm the existence of two clades, the long known Laelia (endemic to México at middle to high elevations) and Schomburgkia (a more widely distributed taxon). Both clades were strongly supported by PP values and moderate BS; thus, we preferred to recognize them as separate genera with a reappraised morphology and taxonomic delimitation. The inclusion of coded indels in the analyses was of great utility; we could identify the probable hybrid origin of L. gouldiana and L. halbingeriana. We propose new combinations to accommodate the taxonomic changes resulting from our study. We transfer L. anceps subsp. anceps, L. anceps subsp. dawsonii, L. aurea, L. mottae, and L. rubescens to Schomburgkia, with the second taxon elevated to species level; the molecular evidence together with previous published work on the morphology, phenology and geography of the group support these decisions. Lastly, the recently described genus Encabarcenia is considered as a synonym of Schomburgkia and, as a result, a new combination is proposed.

-(Subtribe Oncidiinae Benth. (Orchidaceae Juss.) in Distrito Federal, Brazil). Oncidiinae is the second largest subtribe of the orchids in the Americas. According to the Brazilian database Lista de Espécies da Flora do Brasil, the representativity of the subtribe in Distrito Federal is of 15 genera and 19 species. The objective of this study was to develop a taxonomic treatment of the subtribe for the Flora of Distrito Federal, Brazil. Field trips, consultations to the herbaria BHCB, CEN, HEPH, IBGE, and UB and morphological analysis of all the material were made. A new occurrence of species and genus, Trichopilia brasiliensis Cong., was registered to Distrito Federal After this study, the taxa list for Oncidiinae of Distrito Federal should be corrected to 15 genera and 18 species. Descriptions, identification keys, and illustrations for taxa were prepared. We concluded that some species of Oncidiinae occurring in Distrito Federal have wide distribution while others are locally rare and require intense effort of collection for registration.

Phylogenetic Placement and Taxonomy of the Genus Hederorkis (Orchidaceae)

Three plastid regions, matK, rpl32-trnL and rpl16 intron and the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 nuclear ribosomal DNA were used to demonstrate a phylogenetic placement of the genus Hederorkis (Orchidaceae) for the first time. The taxonomic position of this genus has been unclear thus far. The phylogenetic and morphological relations of Hederorkis to the most closely related genera Sirhookera, Adrorhizon, Bromheadia and Polystachya are also discussed. A hypothesis concerning an origin and evolution of Hederorkis is proposed. Hederorkis is an epiphytic two-leaved orchid genus with lateral inflorescence, non-resupinate flowers, elongate gynostemium and rudimentary column foot. It is native to the Indian Ocean Islands. Two species of Hederorkis are recognized worldwide, H. scandens endemic to Mauritius and Réunion and H. seychellensis endemic to Seychelles. For each of the species treated a full synonymy, detailed description and illustration are included. The distribution map and dichotomous keys to the species have also been provided.
