A combination of plasma DAO and citrulline levels as a potential marker for acute mesenteric ischemia

Abstract: IntroductionThere is no valid and reliable diagnostic test for early diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI). The aim of this study was to measure the plasma levels of diamine oxidase (DAO) and citrulline in AMI to gain insight into its early diagnosis.Material and methodsA total of 21 Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups, that is, control group, short-term ischemia group, and prolonged ischemia group. The superior mesenteric artery was occluded for 15 min in the short-term ischemia group and… Show more

“…Xu et al 8 found urea serum concentrations significantly elevated after 45 min of kidneys IR in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Cakmaz et al 9 found the extent of increased plasma D-amino acid oxidase levels and the one of decreased citrulline levels dependent on superior mesenteric artery IR in Wistar albino rats. Koetting et al significantly enhanced 10 the renal function by 2 h hypothermic machine reperfusion with oxygenation HR-O = more than threefold increase in renal clearances of urea levels, after cold stored kidneys preservation; in female German Landrace pigs.…”

“…Plasma DAO concentrations significantly increase following intestinal mucosal damage. Thus, plasma DAO levels can serve as a marker of mucosal integrity (Çakmaz et al., ). This means that orally administered O. stamineus could protect intestinal mucosa from stress‐induced damage, with no significant difference between the effects of the root, stem, and leaf extracts.…”
