A Closed Literature-Based Discovery Technique Finds a Mechanistic Link Between Hypogonadism and Diminished Sleep Quality in Aging Men

Abstract: This approach is publically available and useful not only in this manner but also to generate from the literature alternative explanatory models for observed experimental results.

“…() analyzed semantic predications displayed in graphs to detect potential paths combining A, B, and C arguments in literature‐based discovery. Devices such as overlapping constituent configurations, including analogous patterns, have also been used to connect seemingly disparate facts in the hopes of discovering new knowledge (Hristovski, Friedman, Rindflesch, & Peterlin, ; Miller et al., ; Swanson, ). As earlier described in this paper, Swanson's original work provides an example of how overlapping constituents in logical assertions lead to SKD.…”

“…This decline may be due in part to reduced testosterone levels in aging men. 39 Decreased testosterone may lead to increased fat mass, and there may be poorer sleep quality associated with obesity. 40,41 Weight loss may improve plasma testosterone levels in obese men.…”

“…Maver et al (2013) identified novel treatments for neovascularization in diabetic retinopathy. Miller et al (2012) found mechanisms to link hypogonadism and diminished sleep quality in aging men. Cairelli et al (2013) proposed a possible explanation for the “obesity paradox” whereby obese patients have better outcomes in intensive care.…”
